Malta Gaming Authority launches ESG hub for licensees

The Malta Gambling Authority (MGA) has launched a new Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Center on its website to provide licensees with detailed information on ESG reporting.

This new resource is the central point for all information relating to the Authority’s voluntary Code of ESG Good Practice.

The program is designed to help online gaming companies follow best practices and meet stakeholder expectations.

The ESG Center aims to support online gaming companies in adopting sustainable practices. The ESG Code of Good Practice is an industry-specific framework designed to increase transparency, encourage ESG reporting and facilitate benchmarking between companies.

It is designed to integrate with existing industry efforts and provide a reference for remote gaming companies to regularly assess, report and improve their ESG practices.

The guidelines, developed through a process of peer review, research significance assessment, stakeholder interviews and consultation with licensors, cover 19 ESG topics in the environmental, social and governance categories.

The guidelines reportedly provide a roadmap for online gaming companies to streamline their reporting efforts. The Code consists of two reporting tiers: the first for basic ESG standards and the second for more advanced objectives.

The Code is designed to be easily accessible to a broad range of companies. Entities reporting under the Code will receive the MGA’s ESG Code seal of approval.

The launch of the ESG Center is the result of several regulatory actions taken by the MGA earlier this year.

These actions include the cancellation of Tipbet’s operating authorization and the approval of St8.io’s approval notice, allowing it to operate within the MGA-regulated market, in addition to the recent cancellation of Super7plus’s authorization and the suspension of Rush Gaming’s authorization.
