The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has issued blocking orders against 11 offshore gambling and affiliate marketing websites operating illegally in the country. The ACMA banned these websites for violating the Interactive Gambling Act 2001. The websites ordered to be banned include Greenspin, Slotman, Jeetcity, Betibet, Candyland Casino, Thunderpick, Golden Lion, Digits 7, Sector 777, New Vegas and PayID Pokies. . The bureau has asked Internet service providers (ISPs) to block access to the websites it enumerates.
ACMA continues to curb illegal
Since November 2019, ACMA has banned 893 illegal gambling and affiliate marketing websites, of which as many as 220 illegal service websites have withdrawn from the country since 2017. ACMA takes website bans very seriously and has included them in a series of enforcement programs with the aim of protecting Australian citizens from illegal gambling. In recent years, an increasing number of websites across Australia have faced similar enforcement measures, and the recent bans are demonstrating their effectiveness.
While announcing the news, ACMA once again warned consumers:
""ACMA would like to remind consumers that even if the services provided by illegal websites appear to be legitimate, they may not provide sufficiently secure customer protection measures. People who use illegal gambling services risk losing their money. "
Australia has blocked many websites, and the above-mentioned 11 websites are the latest additions to the blocked list. Among them, Wild Blaster and BetUS were previously ruled to illegally provide gambling services in Australia.
Complementary measures
The Australian Senate recently approved a credit card ban for online gambling, with a six-month grace period before the ban officially takes effect. Prior to this, the country had already banned the use of credit cards for physical gambling, and the ban complemented the scope of regulation and synchronized the regulations for all forms of gambling. The legislation has been passed by the House of Representatives and the Senate and is awaiting presidential assent before implementation.
