Thailand's most popular instant messaging app LINE suddenly announced a major adjustment on its official Facebook page—the time limit for message recall will be reduced from the original 24 hours to 1 hour, with the new rule expected to officially take effect at the end of October this year. This announcement immediately sparked a heated discussion among users.
LINE's "Recall Message" feature has been online since 2017 and has accompanied users for a full seven years. It has long been regarded as a lifesaver in chat for "sending the wrong characters, sending to the wrong person, or saying the wrong thing." Previously, users had a whole day's buffer period to delete messages. But with this change, the recall time limit will be compressed to only 1 hour.
The operation method remains unchanged—just press and hold the message and click "Recall," and the content will disappear from both parties' conversations simultaneously, leaving a "Message Recalled" or "You Unsent a message" prompt.
This adjustment immediately triggered different voices. Some netizens joked: "If you send the wrong love message late at night, there will be no chance to recall it the next day!" Others worry that "one hour is too short, which may make many awkward situations irreparable." However, there are also supporters who believe that the new rule can reduce abuse and misunderstandings, making chats more authentic and transparent.
Whether for better or worse, this rule is bound to change users' chatting habits. As for the final effect, it seems that we will have to wait until the implementation at the end of October to find out.
