The Botswana Gambling Authority and the Namibia Lottery Commission held a high-level bilateral meeting in Gaborone and formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aimed at deepening cooperation between the two countries in gambling regulation, player protection, and industry governance.
The Botswana delegation was led by Gambling Authority board member Gaoakanye Tapeng and CEO Peter Emolemo Kesitilwe, while the Namibian side was headed by Lottery Commission Chairman Wycliff Shililifa and CEO Dr. John Shimaneni. The two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on gambling policies, responsible gambling measures, and cross-border regulatory trends, and conducted site visits and policy introductions.
According to the agreement, the two parties will establish joint training programs, conduct research cooperation, and share regulatory experiences and data to promote regional gambling policy coordination, enhance industry compliance, and increase public trust. This initiative is also aimed at addressing the growing scale and complexity of the Southern African gambling market.
This MoU marks another milestone in Southern African gambling governance. Botswana and Namibia hope to jointly build a gambling environment centered on integrity, fairness, and responsibility, and set an example of cross-border cooperation and player protection in Africa.
