The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) of Uganda recently issued a warning against an online gambling platform named WINGO, stating that it is not legally licensed in the country and advising the public not to visit the website or engage with it in any way.
WINGO claims to have been licensed by the so-called "Uganda Gaming Commission," but the regulatory authority has pointed out that such an agency does not exist. According to the Lotteries and Gaming Act of 2016, in Uganda, only the NLGRB has the authority to issue licenses for lotteries, casinos, and betting operations, and WINGO is not listed on the NLGRB's official list of licensed operators for 2025.
The NLGRB urges the public to verify the legality of websites before submitting any personal information and to report any suspicious platforms to prevent loss of personal property or information leakage. The regulatory body has a search function on its official website to help the public verify the list of legal gambling companies.
As illegal online and offline gambling activities increasingly rampant in Uganda, the NLGRB is working with internet service providers to block foreign gambling platforms and collaborating with the police to combat unlicensed gambling machines domestically. To date, law enforcement has seized thousands of illegal gambling devices and continues to conduct awareness and education campaigns to enhance public awareness and prevention of illegal gambling.
