The countdown to the 2025 World Games has begun! This major multi-sport event will be held grandly in Chengdu, China, from August 7 to 17, 2025. This will be the first time in the history of the World Games to be held in China, which is a significant milestone for both China and the organizer—the International World Games Association (IWGA).
International Stage for Non-Olympic Sports
The World Games are held every four years, primarily showcasing various sports not included in the Olympic Games. The event provides a global stage for niche but highly spectator-friendly and competitive sports. Approximately 5,000 athletes from about 118 countries are expected to gather in Chengdu to participate in 34 major and over 250 minor events. This edition of the games is also part of the IWGA's "Growth Beyond Excellence" strategy, aimed at expanding the scale of participation and enhancing global influence.
Exciting Diverse Events
Audiences will enjoy a range of diverse and exhilarating sports. Classic returning sports include karate, squash, martial arts, and the increasingly popular climbing. Additionally, floorball, tug of war, sports dancing, kickboxing, and archery will also be featured.
Some culturally distinctive sports such as fistball, korfball, and ultimate frisbee will also make their appearance, adding unique flair to the event.
Excitingly, cheerleading and powerboating will join the World Games for the first time, injecting fresh vitality and visual impact into this edition. Meanwhile, previous sports such as bowling and artistic roller skating will no longer appear in this edition's schedule.
A Globally Anticipated Event About to Begin
The brand image of this edition of the World Games is also eye-catching. The event logo integrates various cultural symbols of Chengdu: the panda face, hibiscus flower, Chinese knot, and arrows symbolizing unity, showcasing the multicultural and global connectivity spirit of the event.
Beyond sports competition, the 2025 Chengdu World Games will also boost the tourism industry, further enhancing Chengdu's global influence as an international city for sports and cultural exchange. For sports enthusiasts and participants worldwide, this will be a passionate, inclusive, and culturally integrated world-class event.
