The Responsible Wagering Australia (RWA) has announced that the renowned esports betting platform Picklebet has officially become its newest member, joining a roster of licensed operators that includes bet365, Betfair, PointsBet, Sportsbet, and Unibet. This expansion further solidifies RWA's position as an industry advocate and enhances its influence in promoting safer gambling measures.
Founded in 2020 with over a hundred employees, Picklebet focuses on the esports betting market. Its inclusion not only enriches the RWA's membership structure but also brings an innovative perspective to the association. RWA CEO Kai Cantwell stated, "We look forward to working closely with Picklebet to support a regulated, safe, and sustainable gambling environment."
It is noteworthy that in May 2025, RWA had publicly criticized the Northern Territory government for unilaterally doubling the tax cap for licensed gambling companies, pointing out that this move could weaken investor confidence and affect the region's attractiveness as a regulatory hub.
Picklebet CEO Nick Heaney emphasized, "We are committed to innovation while adhering to responsibility, which means actively participating in the dialogue for the healthy development of the industry."
With the addition of Picklebet, RWA's membership now covers the vast majority of Australia's licensed online gambling markets. Discussions within the industry regarding national gambling regulations and contributions from various state horse racing sectors continue.
