Kangwon Land, the only casino in South Korea that allows locals to enter, has recently launched a large-scale hotel facility renovation project. As part of the "K-HIT" development plan, this investment of 200 billion Korean Won will renovate 757 guest rooms, approximately 41% of the total number of rooms. The project is expected to continue until 2028, aiming to prepare for the new casino scheduled to open in the first half of the year. In plain terms, it means upgrading the over 20-year-old guest rooms and creating a dedicated lounge for high-net-worth gamblers.

Renovation details: Old building gets a new look, VIP area upgraded separately
The renovation covers 477 guest rooms in the Grand Hotel main tower (construction period until April 2028) and 280 units in the Mountain Condo (scheduled to be completed by October 2027). These rooms have been in use since the main casino opened in 2003. The renovation is not limited to interior decoration; the Grand Hotel will also add family-style accommodations and a casino-exclusive service floor, with the 24th floor being transformed into a members-only VIP lounge. The exterior walls of the Mountain Condo will be replaced with non-combustible materials to enhance fire safety. The affected rooms have been temporarily suspended from online booking since March 1.
Strategic background: K-HIT plan drives transformation of the integrated resort
The renovation is part of Kangwon Land's long-planned "K-HIT" integrated development project. The plan has a total investment of about 3 trillion Korean Won, aimed at upgrading the resort's infrastructure and expanding non-gambling facilities, including new walking trails, a health center, and luxury pool villas. The company's goal is to increase the proportion of non-gambling revenue from the current 20% to 40% by 2032. In 2025, the company's revenue reached 1.48 trillion Korean Won (+3.5%), but net profit fell by 31%. Interested in the latest developments in Asian integrated resorts?
