The nearly fifty-year-old North Las Vegas classic casino Poker Palace, which closed last September, is set to reopen with a brand new look. The new owner, Truckee Gaming, has invested $20 million to acquire this nearly 5-acre property and has "completely rebuilt" the interior. The renovated casino will be renamed Club Fortune North and is expected to officially welcome guests in mid-April. Simply put, it's like peeling off a layer from inside out, completely saying goodbye to the past "rustic" charm. The Nevada Gaming Control Board has recommended approval of the new license, pending final decision by the Gaming Commission. Want to know the latest trends in the local Las Vegas casino market? PASA official website continues to track industry asset transactions and renovation cases.

First, from "Circus Circus's illegitimate child" to a modern community casino
Truckee Gaming founder and CEO Ferenc Szony was quite straightforward about the original appearance of Poker Palace: "It looked like a child born from Circus Circus and Excalibur." Both are low-end casino resorts on the Las Vegas Strip. Szony believes that the property "desperately needed a radical change."
The renovation includes:
New slot machines and gaming systems
Restroom renovations, bar remodeling, kitchen expansion
Comprehensive upgrade of the poker area
Introduction of a horse racing and sports betting area operated by Boomers Sportsbook
This is Truckee Gaming's first venture into horse betting, and Szony said, "Let's see how it goes, hoping for a smooth operation."
Second, operational plan: a team of 100, no table games for now
The new casino will employ about 100 staff members, fewer than the original 125, mainly because table games will not be resumed at this stage. Truckee promises to prioritize rehiring former Poker Palace employees and to retain their seniority.
Since Club Fortune North will become the 11th casino under Truckee's banner, the company has also applied for permission to reallocate slot machines among its own properties, including the existing Club Fortune Casino.
Third, site selection logic: betting on the rise of the North Valley
Szony grew up in Las Vegas and has witnessed the transformation of the North Valley over the past decade. "In the past, you didn't hear much about North Las Vegas, but it's getting hotter these years, and we want to be part of it." He said that the company has been looking for expansion opportunities in the greater Las Vegas area, and this property "just hit the spot."
Although the gaming revenue on Las Vegas Boulevard is expected to remain flat and visitor numbers may decline by 2025, the population in Southern Nevada continues to grow, increasing the demand for community casinos. New residents prefer to have their entertainment needs met close to home, and companies like Boyd Gaming are also planning projects like Cadence Crossing nearby.
Fourth, not "selling land to build buildings," but a new opening of an old store
Poker Palace has been serving local gamblers since its opening in 1974. After the acquisition, there were concerns among residents that the property would be leveled to build residences, but Truckee chose to completely renovate rather than demolish and rebuild. As regulatory approvals progress, this nearly half-century-old store is set to continue serving the North Valley community under the new identity of Club Fortune North.
