To commend the heroic performance of Filipino rescuers during the 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar in March 2025, the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) awarded a total of 6.9 million pesos (approximately $123,000) in cash rewards to 138 personnel involved in the humanitarian mission. Each member received a bonus of 50,000 pesos to acknowledge their contributions in medical aid and search and rescue during the 12-day mission.
The Philippine Inter-Agency Humanitarian Contingent (PIAHC), composed of the Office of Civil Defense, Department of Health, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and the Philippine Air Force, departed on April 1st to Myanmar. During their mission, they established a permanent field hospital in Bhamo, successfully treated over a thousand patients, and assisted the local government in emergency rescue operations.
Alejandro Tengco, Chairman of PAGCOR, stated: "You not only demonstrated courage but also embodied the compassionate humanitarian spirit of the Filipino people." The Department of National Defense also presented a plaque of appreciation to PAGCOR, recognizing its ongoing humanitarian efforts.
This assistance is part of PAGCOR's corporate social responsibility. In recent years, the agency has also provided 4.1 million pesos to earthquake relief in Turkey and donated medical vehicles worth 20 million pesos to impoverished areas in the Philippines, continuously undertaking social responsibilities both domestically and internationally, showcasing the philanthropic side of the gaming industry.
