The latest data from the Spanish gambling regulator DGOJ shows that the total gambling revenue in the first quarter of 2025 reached 398.1 million euros (approximately 466.6 million US dollars), a 13.7% increase from the same period last year, but a 2.68% decrease compared to the fourth quarter of 2024. The complete quarterly report released details the performance and key statistics of each market segment.
The casino sector continues to lead the market, with revenue reaching 203.6 million euros in the first quarter, a 20.6% increase year-over-year. Slot machine revenue was particularly notable, with a significant 42% increase from the same period last year. The gambling market followed closely, with quarterly revenue of 165.9 million euros, an 11.2% increase year-over-year. In contrast, poker and bingo revenues were 25.52 million euros and 3.63 million euros, respectively, down 10.3% and 13.5% year-over-year.
In terms of player activity, the number of deposits by players nationwide in the first quarter of 2025 increased by 23.85% year-over-year, and the number of withdrawals increased by 29.4%. Sequential data also showed strong performance, with deposits and withdrawals increasing by 8.1% and 10.6% respectively from the previous quarter. At the same time, marketing expenditures increased slightly by 1.74% year-over-year, and the number of new player accounts grew by 14.4%.
It is worth noting that DGOJ recently showcased its innovative risk player detection model at the international regulatory conference held in Paris, France, aimed at more effectively identifying and supporting problem gambling players, reflecting the regulator's high regard for the healthy development of the market.
Additionally, last month DGOJ published the 2024 executive summary, showing a 21.6% year-over-year increase in the total number of players. In the same month, the regulator issued fines totaling 77.4 million euros to 14 non-compliant operators and banned them from entering the Spanish market for two years, demonstrating its strict enforcement attitude.
