Recently, rumors have circulated on social media about some tourists being kidnapped in Thailand, raising concerns about the safety of travel in Thailand. In response, the Thai government quickly responded, clearly denying the claims and emphasizing that it always provides high-standard security and services to tourists.
On May 24, the Deputy Minister of Tourism and Sports, Natalia, stated that the government has not received any reports of tourist kidnapping cases. She emphasized that Thailand always treats tourists as VIPs and has established a comprehensive reception and security mechanism. From the moment tourists arrive at the airport, their journey is safeguarded.
It is reported that Thai airports have security teams and service desks for tourists, providing protection and tracking services for their property and luggage. If losses occur due to negligence of relevant units, the responsible units will bear the compensation liability. Additionally, tourists will receive assistance from immigration police for clearance upon entry, and can use officially priced regular public transportation for travel. At major attractions, police, tourism department officials, and volunteers will also be present to provide assistance, ensuring that tourists enjoy convenience and safety throughout the country.
To enhance response efficiency, Thailand has also established a "Tourist Police Safety Command Center." Tourists in need can call the 24-hour emergency hotline 1155, or download the official "Thailand Tourist Police" mobile app for real-time assistance. Tourist police cars also patrol major scenic areas around the clock, strengthening on-site security forces.
Regarding concerns about some goods being overpriced or service fees being opaque, the Thai government has also expressed high concern. To prevent individual merchants from exploiting tourists, the government has collaborated with the Airline Association and the Ministry of Transport to introduce special policies, including increasing flights, reducing aviation fuel taxes to lower ticket costs, and strengthening the management of tourism practitioners, requiring them to improve the quality of accommodation, catering, and various services. At the same time, prices in the entire industry must be open and transparent, and the government will crack down on illegal tour groups and unlicensed guides.
Natalia reiterated that Thailand's goal is to create a top travel destination that global tourists can trust and feel safe in, not only in terms of safety but also in continuously optimizing the service experience. She stated: "We not only welcome tourists, but we are also committed to ensuring that every tourist in Thailand has a safe, comfortable, and valuable journey."
