The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) agents conducted a rescue operation in Pasay City on March 12, successfully rescuing a 32-year-old Chinese citizen and arresting five suspects involved in the kidnapping. However, during the operation, a fierce chase occurred, and a vehicle driven by the suspects knocked down a motorcycle rider, causing fatal injuries.
NCRPO Chief Brigadier General Anthony A. Aberin stated that the police initiated the operation immediately after receiving the report. It was reported that the victim's friend alerted the authorities right after learning that he was kidnapped by five compatriots, who demanded a ransom of 500,000 pesos for his release.
Aberin revealed: "After receiving the report, NCRPO agents quickly planned a rescue operation and conducted raids at two locations in Pasay City, aiming to rescue the victim and arrest the suspects."
When the operation commenced, the suspects attempted to flee in their vehicle, prompting a police chase. During the process, one suspect was arrested on the spot, while the others managed to temporarily escape.
During the escape, the suspects' vehicle collided with a 27-year-old motorcycle rider, causing severe injuries. Despite being rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment, the rider succumbed to his injuries and passed away.
The police later tracked down another suspect near a shopping mall in Pasay City and conducted further raids on an apartment building, successfully arresting another suspect. At the scene, the police seized 152.4 grams of suspected methamphetamine, valued at approximately 761,000 pesos, and also confiscated a .38 caliber revolver with six live rounds.
Currently, all arrested suspects are detained at the Pasay City Police Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU), awaiting further legal proceedings. The seized drugs and firearms have been handed over to the Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory for examination. The police stated that the case is still under further investigation, and efforts to capture the fugitives continue, to ensure that all involved are brought to justice.
