Gross sportsbook revenue in Arizona jumped more than 30 percent in September compared to September 2023, reaching $77.4 million. Handle surged nearly 20 percent versus last year to $732 million, as books held 10.4 percent.
Books’ take-home revenue was lessened substantially by $37.7 million in free play and other promotional outlays, 49 percent of revenue. This was an increase from 46 percent of revenue the year before.
All but 11 percent of handle and 10 percent of revenue was bunched amongst five operators. FanDuel lost market share, down to 35 percent from 38 percent, largely to newcomer ESPN Bet. Other operators losing share were BetMGM, which lost 25 percent of its constituency, and Caesars Sportsbook. The only operator to remain steady was DraftKings with 34 percent.
Although DraftKings led in terms of handle, with $264 million, it garnered less revenue than FanDuel, $26.6 million to FanDuel’s $27.4 million. The latter’s handle was $232 million.
BetMGM realized $9 million in revenue, Caesars $3.6 million, and Bet365 $3.4 million. ESPN Bet finished with $1.8 million. BetRivers brought in $400,000.
Promotions were led by DraftKings at $13.4 million, followed by FanDuel’s $10.7 million. Bet365 spent the highest percentage of handle (12 percent) or $3.4 million.
