The president of the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), Carlos Baigorri, emphasized the crucial role of the bettor in combating illegal betting houses in Brazil. In an interview with CNN 360° on Tuesday (15), Baigorri highlighted that the consumer is the "most important agent" in this fight against illegality in the sector.
According to the president of Anatel, although the Brazilian state, through the Ministry of Finance and Anatel itself, is taking measures to prevent the operation of irregular bets, the real power lies in the hands of the consumer.
“If the bettor is aware of this and does not play in these irregular bets, this would be the best way to end an illegal business. Without bettors, they cease to exist”, stated Baigorri.
How to identify regular betting houses
Baigorri advised bettors to consult the list provided by the Ministry of Finance to check the regularity of the betting houses.
He emphasized the importance of using only regulated platforms, warning that betting on irregular sites leaves the consumer "on their own risk", without the protection of Brazilian laws.
“If a citizen places a bet in an irregular bet and has any problem, they are on their own risk, because they are engaging in the irregular market to contract a service that will not have any state protection”, explained the president of Anatel.
The use of regular betting houses, according to Baigorri, guarantees the bettor protection in terms of mental health, financial issues, and ensures a controlled environment where the rules are complied with.
He emphasized that all the benefits provided in the legislation are only guaranteed when the bets are made on platforms that observe and comply with Brazilian law.
