The latest data from the Danish Gambling Authority shows that overall gambling expenditure in August 2024 saw a significant increase.
Total spending across various gambling sectors including betting, online casinos, gaming machines, and physical casinos reached 571 million Danish Kroner (84 million USD), marking a 4.3% increase compared to the same period in 2023. This growth is primarily attributed to the rise in online casino expenditures.
Interestingly, other sectors such as betting, gaming machines, and physical casinos experienced a decline during the same period, highlighting a shift in Danish gamblers' preferences towards online platforms.
In addition to these new data, the Danish authorities have also made changes to their reporting structure.
Poker now appears as a separate category under online casinos in the monthly statistics. This modification, retroactively applied to data since 2012, aims to provide a more detailed view of the online casino market without altering the overall gambling gross revenue (GGR) data.
The restructuring resulted in the elimination of the "commission games" category, with non-poker commission games now falling under the "other" category.
Consequently, the online casino sector is now divided into six different game types: slot machines, roulette, blackjack, poker, bingo games, and others.
