During the 3rd Brazilian Sports Integrity Summit, GMB spoke with Betsul CEO Fernando Garita about the future of the regulated Brazilian market. The executive stated that at the beginning of the formal operation, the sites will work to win over customers from betting houses that did not apply for a license and that Betsul will stand out in ensuring them a long-lasting relationship, not just a honeymoon phase where only the first few weeks are good.
Games Magazine Brasil – A few days ago you were at the Sports Integrity Summit, but the topic is not new to Betsul. What could you say about it?
Fernando Garita –
For us, everything involving responsible gaming and sports integrity has been a fundamental part of our operation. So much so that we recently received new recognition as one of the best customer service providers. We also launched a guide for players, so that users understand how it works and what each word on the site means. Often they enter but do not have the complete concept. Thus, we dedicate time to prepare information for them. Information and integrity are fundamental to the market.
Is educating the bettor important so they know what they are doing?
Correct. We want an active bettor, but one who has this knowledge. In the case of sports betting, there is a great advantage, because those who study, for example, the Brazilian Championship, will have more information and tools to make calculations and have interesting returns. Those who study more get better grades. At the same time, we have all the information for other types of games, so that everyone knows them well. We always renew our portfolio and only offer certified games. Technically we self-regulate before regulation. This is the best way to remain in the market. We are not yet a giant, but we are entering that list.
Betsul has applied for a license with the Ministry of Finance. What are your expectations regarding the presented process?
We have presented ourselves and hope that all companies have also presented with consistent documents, so as not to make the Secretary of Prizes and Bets analyze documents in vain and waste time. We know that some do not have the financial capacity nor have presented all the documents and are still seeking partners. I hope that the Ministry continues to meet deadlines, as it always has, for the good of formal operators.
Is Betsul's documentation consistent and meets all the requirements of the Secretary of Prizes and Bets?
Of course. Otherwise, we wouldn't have presented it. And we are open to any request or additional information. As I recently said and reinforce, Betsul is open to regulators or other entities, to present how the business of sports betting and online games works, I can personally receive any interested party. We want to share with everyone the consistent information of our sector and the operation we perform.
And it is also a way to show regulators and even the press what our segment represents. We provide jobs to many Brazilians, we are partners with numerous outsourced companies and this already means the collection of many taxes, both from buildings and salaries. It is very easy for everyone to see how much we already contribute to the economy in Brazil.
What will the regulated market look like, starting January 1, 2025?
There will be two sides. One will be of the sites that did not apply for licenses and will have to leave their customers. These users will seek new betting houses and there will be a bit of marketing aggressiveness to capture these customers. Subsequently, which is the main goal of the sportsbooks, the retention of the new customers, since it is a marriage. Everything is very beautiful in the honeymoon, but afterwards it is necessary to maintain the relationship for an extended period, so that the user is content.
