Finland’s monopoly gambling operator Veikkaus says a new proposal for change negotiations will cover up to 620 employees and may lead to the termination of up to four employment contracts.
The company added that "material changes" may be implemented in between 10 and 37 employment contracts, as part of the proposal for negotiations issued on Monday.
The announcement on Tuesday comes as Veikkaus continues to prepare for the transition towards a multi-licensing system, which is set to come into force by the start of 2027.
Last autumn, Veikkaus said that around 185-215 employees would lose their jobs as part of a restructuring process.
Heli Lallukka, executive vice president, HR, at Veikkaus said as part of the latest update: “In practice, we are aiming at an operating model through which we can focus on our core business.
“The planned measures would enable us to deal with the changes in Veikkaus' mission and operating environment, as well as with the changes in the overall gambling sector.
“We want to ensure our competitiveness in the future licence-based market and our vitality in the monopoly market.”
Veikkaus said the autumn 2023 changes have taken it in its “targeted direction” and that it is planning to “carry on with the change process” in order to “optimally support successful business and implementation of the strategy, while complying with the regulatory requirements.”
The restructuring may also lead to new roles and jobs and the re-evaluation of current posts, the company added.
“This turning point is an opportunity for Veikkaus to reform and grow,” said Lallukka. “We will continue to invest in business that we deem to be significant for Veikkaus' future competitiveness.
“We want to turn Veikkaus into a company that is a major operator both in Finland and internationally, the customers' first choice, and a shared source of pride of all Finns.”
