The government of Bangladesh has officially announced a "zero tolerance policy" towards all online gambling and related promotions.
The new regulations extend the crackdown from operators to media, advertisers, and social platforms, prohibiting any form of gambling advertisements and promotions.
The Press Information Department (PID) stated in a declaration that online gambling advertisements "undermine social values and endanger the moral development of youth," and the government will "ensure the safety and cleanliness of cyberspace."
The statement clearly states: "Any content involving gambling or immoral advertising is illegal, and the government will punish it according to the law."
📵 Full media ban: From advertising agencies to social platforms
The new directive requires that all media, portal sites, advertising agencies, and digital platforms must not publish or display any gambling or betting advertisements—whether it's web banners, app pop-ups, or Google AdSense, Meta Ads, and social platform activities.
All advertising agencies must immediately block such content, or they will face fines, bans, or legal accountability.
The National Cyber Security Authority (NCSA) is authorized to monitor and block non-compliant websites in real-time.
⚠️ Celebrity and influencer advertising ban
The new regulations specifically warn—public figures, influencers, and content creators must not participate in any form of gambling advertising, endorsements, or implicit promotions.
The government states that any "soft lead generation" or "entertainment packaging" of gambling promotions is illegal.
The National Cyber Security Authority has teamed up with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Communications Regulatory Authority (BTRC) to launch a special investigation against platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and TikTok, focusing on "borderline content."
💰 Crackdown on illegal financial flows and gray market advertising
Beyond content control, the government is also strengthening prevention at the financial level.
The Central Bank of Bangladesh has required all financial institutions to use AI monitoring systems to identify and report abnormal financial flows related to gambling immediately.
In the national law enforcement action in July 2025, the Criminal Investigation Department sealed over 5000 mobile payment accounts related to gambling transactions and recommended revoking the licenses of thousands of agents.
Bangladesh's "zero tolerance" action marks the country's complete ban on gambling promotions at the media and advertising levels.
From traditional newspapers to social platforms, from celebrity endorsements to advertising algorithms—all gambling-related content is marked as off-limits.
