The mysterious disappearance of 34 cockfighting enthusiasts in the Philippines has once again drawn national attention. From the end of 2021 to the beginning of 2022, these men went missing one after another after heading to cockfighting arenas or gambling venues, with the case spanning multiple provinces and no breakthroughs made.

On June 24, the Philippine National Police (PNP) stated that they would thoroughly investigate the case, regardless of whether the individuals involved are civilians, officials, or police personnel, and that the police would not condone any wrongdoing.

This case was previously thought to be related to illegal gambling and money laundering activities, and there has been long-standing suspicion that law enforcement might be involved or even complicit. Recently, a key suspect claimed in a media interview that the missing persons had been abducted and killed by the police, and their bodies dumped in Taal Lake, causing a public uproar.

In response, PNP spokesperson Brigadier General Fahardo stated that the police would not hinder the investigation due to any special identities, "No matter who it is, they will be dealt with according to the law." She mentioned that they have not yet received a judicial order to search the lake, but once issued, maritime police forces will immediately begin the search. If the suspect is willing to formally submit a sworn statement, the police will file a case according to the law and provide protection for him.

This case has become one of the most controversial disappearance cases in the Philippines in recent years. Over the past three years, the families of the victims have repeatedly petitioned the Presidential Office and Congress, demanding a thorough investigation into the truth. Now, as accusations directly point to the internal police system, society is closely watching whether the PNP can break the silence, uncover the real culprits, and restore public trust in law enforcement.
