Under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet, the Cambodian government continues to intensify its crackdown on online gambling and telecommunications fraud. According to the latest data released by the Ministry of Interior, since the seventh government took office in August 2023, 11,240 foreign nationals involved in cybercrime have been arrested and deported, most of them Chinese citizens.
Police data shows that from October 1, 2018, to May 19, 2025, the Cambodian side has destroyed 47 cross-border fraud strongholds, involving 23,990 foreign nationals, reflecting the large scale, secrecy, and complexity of such criminal organizations.
At a press conference on May 30, the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Interior, Song Po, stated that since the new government was established, several concentrated crackdowns on cyber fraud and human trafficking have been launched. He pointed out: "We have not only arrested criminals but also successfully rescued 4,840 trapped victims."
Song Po emphasized that such transnational criminal activities pose a serious threat to social order and endanger public life and property safety. The Cambodian government will continue to mobilize resources and strengthen cooperation with international partners, including China, to curb the spread of cyber fraud.
To systematically advance related work, the Cambodian government officially established the "Cyber Fraud Combat Committee" on February 20, 2025, led personally by Prime Minister Hun Manet, coordinating military and police forces and major law enforcement agencies, vowing to completely eradicate domestic and foreign fraud networks.
As a series of rectification actions continue to unfold, Cambodia is sending a strong signal to the international community: law enforcement will not be relaxed, and the determination to maintain national law and order and social stability should not be underestimated.
