Thai Justice Party MP Kamwee revealed on social media that there are signs that Chinese telecom fraud gangs have recently returned to the Irrawaddy Valley area in Myanmar's Karen State, casting a shadow of telecom fraud crimes over the Thai-Myanmar border area once again.
Kamwee stated that although Thailand and Myanmar had previously cooperated in cracking down on telecom fraud groups, including blacklisting the involved organizations and deporting Chinese suspects, the latest intelligence shows that some fraud groups are secretly returning and are even fully prepared to prevent a new round of crackdowns. He warned that these criminal groups might resurge, posing a severe challenge to regional security.
To effectively address this threat, Kamwee proposed a "short-term, medium-term, long-term" comprehensive management plan:
Short-term response:
Although previous measures such as cutting off electricity, fuel, and internet had been effective, the telecom fraud groups are now equipped with their own power generation equipment, fuel reserves, and satellite network systems, making traditional blocking methods less effective.
Medium-term deployment:
Focus on cracking down on criminal networks within Thailand that support telecom fraud, especially local criminals colluding with Chinese gangs; urge the Thai government to establish a database of telecom fraud crimes, fully recording information of extradited Chinese suspects; thoroughly investigate the ways telecom fraud groups obtain electricity, networks, manpower, and transportation channels, and implement precise and transparent strikes to cut off the corruption profit chain.
Long-term planning:
Urge the authorities in Myanmar's Karen State to strengthen law enforcement;
Implement "constructive intervention" through diplomatic means to assist in restoring local political stability and law enforcement capabilities in Myanmar; Kamwee particularly emphasized that the situation in Myanmar directly affects the security of the Thai border and must be given high priority. Kamwee also pointed out that the telecom fraud issue in Cambodia is more complex and challenging than in Myanmar, posing a significant security problem for the entire Southeast Asia region.
