The Lao Electric Power Company (EDL) recently released preliminary data, reaffirming its firm stance of not providing electricity support to illegal activities such as telecommunications fraud. The company reiterated that all electric resources are strictly used for lawful socio-economic activities, aiming to dispel external concerns about its power supply supporting illegal activities.
Since May 2022, the Lao Electric Power has been supplying electricity to parts of Daqili City in Myanmar under an agreement signed initially in 2021. To fulfill this agreement, Lao Electric Power has been closely cooperating with private enterprises authorized by the Myanmar government, collecting and analyzing recent electricity usage data to ensure the legality of the power usage.
Starting from February 7, 2025, Lao Electric Power will supply electricity to Daqili City through a 115 kV transmission system, primarily serving local residents, small businesses, government agencies, and public service institutions such as schools and hospitals. The total amount of electricity supplied is strictly controlled, not exceeding 13 megawatts, and is distributed through four lines.
Lao Electric Power also emphasized that all power supply activities are conducted under strict supervision, and the use of electric resources for illegal purposes is strictly prohibited. The company's leaders reiterated that the Lao government and the electric power company firmly support the lawful socio-economic development of Daqili City in Myanmar, and adopt a zero-tolerance attitude towards any illegal activities.
