
Indonesian police have taken action against 85 influencers suspected of promoting gambling websites on their social media accounts.
The Director of Criminal Investigation Agency of the Indonesian National Police, Vayu Widad, stated at a press conference that these influencers have been detained since the establishment of a special task force to combat online gambling by the Minister of Political and Security Affairs, Budi Gunawan, on November 4th this year.
Vayu revealed that some artists were recently discovered promoting gambling websites, although they had started such activities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
To verify the existence of the promoted gambling websites, the police have also employed experts, including IT and criminal experts.
Since the establishment of this task force, Indonesian police have cracked down on 619 online gambling cases and listed 734 individuals as suspects during the same period.
The police also seized assets worth 7.76 billion Rupiah, including 858 mobile phones, 111 laptops/personal computers/tablets, 470 bank account books, 829 bank cards, 6 cars, 2 buildings, and 2 firearms.
