Brazil.- Caixa Econômica Federal (CEF) published the balance for the first nine months of 2024. The state bank achieved a net profit of R$ 9.400m (USD 1.620m), which is a 21.6 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023. The survey also includes figures from the federal lotteries.
The lottery games of Caixa collected more than R$ 18.200m (USD 3.140m), from January to September, an amount nearly 12 percent higher than in the same period last year. Regarding the prizes delivered by Loterias Caixa, the winners received more than R$ 6.300m (USD 1.000m) in this period.
The lottery revenues generated a transfer of R$ 7.100m (USD 1.200m) to social programs of the Federal Government. Loterias Caixa is one of the main sponsors of Brazilian Olympic sports. The state bank signed an agreement with the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) to invest R$160m in the new Olympic cycle for Brazilian athletes, which is set to continue until December 2028.

From January to July 2024, federal lottery winners could not redeem more than R$ 290m (USD 51m). By law, when a prize is not claimed within 90 days following the publication of the results, the amounts are transferred to the Student Financing Fund (Fies), linked to the Ministry of Education, which helps finance higher education courses at private institutions.
In one of the recent Mega-Sena draws, only one bet from the city of Cuiabá (MT) won R$ 201m (USD 35m). The draw of contest 2,795 was the sixth largest prize in the history of regular Mega-Sena contests. This amount has not yet been claimed by the winner.
