The establishment of the body dependent on the Senate was supposed to take place last Friday, October 25. A new date has not yet been defined.
Brazil.- The Senate decided to cancel the installation meeting of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) on Betting, scheduled for last Friday, October 25. The reason for the postponement was the absence in Brasilia of Senator Otto Alencar who, as the oldest member of the panel, would preside over the commission's installation meeting. At the moment, a new date for the establishment of the Senate-dependent body has not been set.
The parliamentary commission of inquiry was created to investigate "the growing influence of online virtual betting games on the budget of Brazilian families." During the commission's installation meeting, the president and vice-president will be elected, and then the panel's rapporteur will be appointed.
A new date for the start of the commission's work has not yet been set, when its members will elect the president and vice-president, in addition to appointing the rapporteur. Senator Hiran will be the president, Eduardo Gomes will be the vice-president, and the rapporteurship will be in charge of Soraya Thronicke, who also promoted the creation of the public body.
The CPI must investigate foreign betting companies operating in Brazil, possible cases of currency evasion, money laundering, and involvement of organized crime. Celebrities and digital influencers who promote irregular platforms will also be investigated.
Among the famous personalities who will be interrogated by the CPI are: Gusttavo Lima, Deolane Bezerra, Tirullipa, Whindersson Nunes, and Gkay. In addition, the commission will summon representatives from major online betting houses, such as Blaze Apostas e Cassinos, Super Bet, and Vai de Bet, and also from companies like Non Stop (artist career management agency) and Loterj. An invitation will also be extended to the president of the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation), Ednaldo Rodrigues.

Discussions are also planned on sponsorship contracts between betting houses and Brazilian football clubs, focusing on the origin and destination of the money, but without delving into the substance of result manipulation, which is the subject of another CPI currently underway in the Senate, chaired by Jorge Kajuru and with Romário as the rapporteur.
