In 2023, the total gambling revenue in Belgian casinos increased by 18.7% to EUR 594.9 million, with online gambling revenue increasing by 20.2% to EUR 455 million. Physical casinos lagged, yet still saw a revenue increase of 14.3% to EUR 139.9 million.
Among the nine physical casinos in Belgium, only the Blankenberge Casino (acquired by Kindred Group in 2020) saw a year-over-year decline in gambling revenue. The Brussels Grand Casino of the Austrian International Casino Group led with offline gambling revenues of EUR 52.5 million, far ahead of the second place Namur Circus Casino Resort (EUR 22.5 million).
As for online gambling revenue, only three casinos saw a decrease. One of these was the Middelkerke Casino, which lacked a valid online license in 2023. However, in February of this year, Betsson’s Betfirst announced the launch of an online casino at Middelkerke Casino, thanks to an agreement reached with casino owner Groupe Partouche.
Meanwhile, slot halls also reported strong growth, with gambling revenue increasing by 17.3% to EUR 437 million. Again, online gambling was a significant factor, accounting for 57.7% of slot hall revenue, growing by 19.4% to EUR 252 million. Live gambling revenues in automatic gaming halls also grew by 14.5%, to EUR 184.9 million.
