The American Gaming Association (AGA) has approved a new legislative proposal from Congress members David Valadao (R-CA) and Troy Carter (D-LA).
The bill aims to establish a program under the Department of Homeland Security's Blue Campaign that provides certification for employers who train their staff to identify and combat human trafficking.
AGA President and CEO Bill Miller stated, "The businesses in the hotel, entertainment, and transportation sectors have a responsibility to be at the forefront of fighting human trafficking, and the gaming industry is fully committed to this mission. AGA appreciates the efforts of representatives Valadao and Carter in addressing this heinous crime and recognizing businesses with the same commitment."
Representative Valadao added, "California has the highest number of human trafficking cases in the nation, impacting communities in the Central Valley. Employees in the entertainment, hotel, and transportation sectors often serve as the first line of defense in recognizing human trafficking. It is crucial that they receive the necessary training to spot the signs of such crimes and save lives."
In January of this year, during Human Trafficking Prevention Month, AGA collaborated with RG24seven Virtual Training to launch an online training program designed to educate gaming industry employees on fighting human trafficking. The training includes videos and quizzes, and participants receive a verified certificate upon completion. Gaming companies can participate in this training for free.
AGA Vice President of Government Relations, Alex Costello, said, "The legislation introduced today by Representatives Valadao and Carter confirms and enhances the role of employee training in combating human trafficking. AGA encourages all businesses in the gaming industry to take advantage of AGA’s free training as part of their commitment to fulfilling their responsibilities and protecting their communities."
