The poker world received a sad news on July 10th News that long-time World Poker Tour (WPT) family member Kurt McPhail has passed away unexpectedly. McPhail founded the WPT League in 2007 and most recently operated the WPT Offshore Poker Room on Virgin Voyages. McPhail, who lives in Wichita, Kansas and has likely spent the past year at sea, attended Hays State University and has been married to Kathy McPhail since November 11, 1998.
WPT released the following statement on social media: "RIP Kurt. You gave me some of the best experiences in my life. I know you are enjoying your eternal voyage now. Love you, man." Likewise, PokerNews PR and Media Manager Chad Holloway provided the following information: “I had the pleasure of getting to know Kurt over the past year and am deeply saddened by his passing. Last October, I had the opportunity to go to WPT Poker at Sea on Virgin Voyage Check out the room and to say Kurt is an excellent host would be an understatement. He is extremely friendly, generous and focused on making sure everyone who walks into the poker room has a great time. He is also the driving force behind the recent WPT voyage. Knowing he was well respected among the people he worked for, we definitely lost a good man for his passion for poker and the community."
