Sun International's online brand Sunbet has officially launched in Namibia, marking its third market in Africa. According to the PASA official website, the launch in Namibia continues the partnership with Bede Gaming that started in 2017, which will continue to provide technical support for Sunbet's platform — and the impressive report card just handed in by Botswana provides the best confidence for this expansion.

Botswana data shines, registrations up 189%, GGR surges 350%

Sunbet CEO Simon Gregory stated that Sun International will leverage its extensive brand recognition in Africa to support further market growth. "After our huge success in Botswana, pushing Sunbet into the Namibian market was our natural next step, especially considering that Namibia is one of South Africa's strongest trading partners." The data is indeed solid — by the second half of 2025, the Bede-powered platform in Botswana saw a 189% increase in registered users, a 239% increase in unique players, and total bets and GGR skyrocketed by 370% and 350% respectively. Gregory looks forward to establishing a strong presence in Namibia and bringing the Sunbet experience that other market customers are accustomed to. Currently, Sunbet's layout on the Bede Gaming platform covers three markets: South Africa, Botswana entered in 2024, and the latest, Namibia.

Sun International accelerates digital transformation with a goal to double online market share

Sun International's FY2025 performance released in March shows that the group's revenue (excluding the impact of the termination of the Table Bay Hotel lease) increased by 7.1% to R12.9 billion (approximately USD 794.7 million). Sunbet is the biggest highlight — digital business revenue surged **75.9%** year-on-year to R2.1 billion, and adjusted EBITDA grew 109.6% to R744 million. CEO Ulrik Bengtsson announced plans to double Sunbet's share of the online market in South Africa from the current 4.5%. In a subsequent interview with iGB, he said that the company has invested resources in personnel and products to achieve this goal: "It all starts with strategy and action, but quickly moves to people and capabilities — ensuring the right skill mix within the organization. My executive team has basically been replaced, but there is still a lot of work to be done in each business unit." Bengtsson stated that Sun International tends to focus on an "organic growth" strategy, but hinted that acquisitions might be an option in the future: "Once the technological components are in place, the approach to acquisitions will be different. We're not there yet, but further down the line, this is a potential scenario."
