A thrilling escape and interception unfolded at the border of Aranyaprathet District in Sa Kaeo Province, Thailand. On January 20, the Special Task Force of the Eastern Military Command in Aranyaprathet discovered 14 Thai nationals (9 men and 5 women) attempting to illegally enter the country through the border jungle. Upon questioning, it was revealed that they were administrators who had fled from online gambling operations in Cambodia, lured by high-paying job advertisements on Facebook, and were trying to return to Thailand after a series of hardships. This incident once again exposed the dark schemes of cross-border online gambling organizations and sounded an alarm for the youth of Southeast Asia. Information on cross-border online gambling risks and cases can be referred to on the PASA official website.

High Salary Trap: Lured to Cambodia with a Monthly Salary of 25,000 Thai Baht

The nightmare for these 14 victims began with an enticing recruitment advertisement:

Luring channel: In November 2025, they saw a recruitment advertisement on Facebook by an online gambling organization in Poipet, Cambodia, promising a monthly salary of 25,000 Thai Baht for administrators;

Blindly trusting: Tempted by a salary much higher than local wages, all 14 individuals were swayed and traveled to Cambodia without verifying the authenticity of the recruitment;

Harsh reality: Upon arrival, they discovered that the recruitment advertisement was completely misleading, and they were forced into labor and faced threats of violence.

Escaping the Nightmare: High Performance Demands + Threats of Violence Drove 14 People Away

What they thought was a high-paying job turned out to be exploitation by the online gambling organization, ultimately forcing them to risk escaping:

Mandatory targets: The employer demanded high performance targets, and failure to meet them not only resulted in salary deductions but also physical harm;

Plotting to escape: Long-term oppression became unbearable for the 14 individuals, who collectively decided to escape on January 18 and headed to Poipet to find a way back to Thailand;

Smuggling attempt: They contacted an unknown intermediary, each paying 2,500 Thai Baht for smuggling fees, attempting to enter Thailand through natural border passages but were timely discovered by the patrol team.

Border Interception: Illegal Entry Faces Processing, Official Strong Warning Issued

The timely interception by the Thai military not only prevented illegal entry but also exposed the potential dangers of cross-border online gambling:

Legal processing: Currently, the 14 individuals have been preliminarily charged with "illegal entry" and transferred to Khlong Nam Sai Police Station for further investigation and handling;

Official reminder: The commanding officer of the troops emphasized that unfamiliar recruitment advertisements on social media hide risks, especially those for cross-border job offers, and urged thorough verification;

Industry warning: This case once again proves that cross-border online gambling organizations often use high salaries as bait, hiding exploitation and violence behind them, and the public should not fall into these traps.
