As 2026 approaches, Las Vegas is busily preparing for a grand New Year's celebration. The local tourism board predicts that over 340,000 visitors will flood into this city that never sleeps to participate in the revelry event named "American Party 2026," with hotel bookings booming and prices soaring.

Visitor numbers may break records, hotel rooms in short supply
The chairman of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), Steve Hill, revealed that the number of visitors on New Year's Eve is expected to be between 340,000 and 345,000, which is likely to break previous records. He made an analogy: "Normally, we are full with about 330,000 to 335,000 people. On New Year's Eve, we will be 'stuffed' a bit more, with each room accommodating a few more people." One reason for this surge is that the total number of city hotel rooms has slightly decreased from previous years, currently about 150,000. This is mainly due to the closure of the Tropical Style Hotel and Mirage Hotel in 2024. According to industry insiders following trends on the PASA official website, this supply-demand relationship directly drives up market prices.
New Year's room rates soar, luxury resorts priced astonishingly
The strong demand and limited room availability are directly reflected in the room rates. A survey shows that from December 31 to January 4, the average nightly price for 111 hotels in Las Vegas reached $293.82. The average price for downtown hotels also rose to $194.79, far higher than the usual level in January. For comparison, LVCVA data shows that the average daily room rate on the Las Vegas Strip is usually $201.48, and downtown is $95.01.
The prices at luxury resorts are even more astonishing, for example, the MGM Grand Hotel charges $1252 per night. Other well-known hotels such as The Palazzo, Four Seasons, Fontainebleau, and Bellagio, also have prices above $533. Of course, there are more affordable options, like Circus Circus Hotel, which still has rooms under $100. Overall, the occupancy rate is expected to be close to 95%, although the total number of visitors may be slightly lower than in previous years.
Fireworks and stars celebrate together, "rocking" into 2026
This year's New Year's celebration will mark the 25th anniversary of the "American Party," with the main event still being the grand fireworks display over the Las Vegas Strip. The fireworks, handled by Grucci Fireworks Company, will be launched simultaneously from the rooftops of 10 resorts, accompanied by a drone show, themed "Rocking into 2026, Las Vegas style." The resorts participating in the fireworks include MGM, Caesars Palace, The Venetian, and Resorts World.
Meanwhile, the downtown Fremont Street Experience will host a "Countdown Under the Canopy" event, featuring live performances by stars such as Cee-Lo and Robin Thicke. The iconic spherical venue "The Sphere" will also join the celebration, displaying countdown scenes from cities around the world throughout the day. Chairman Hill also mentioned that this celebration also kicks off the annual celebration of America's 250th anniversary.
