UK non-profit organization GamCare released its 2024-25 annual report, showing significant improvements in the efficiency of its gambling harm support services, while also preparing for the transformation of the statutory taxation funding system starting in April 2026. Service Optimization: Both Response and Treatment Efficiency Improved

The improvement in response speed is not just a little bit! In the 2024-25 period, the connection rate of GamCare's hotline and online consultations within 30 seconds increased from 72.7% to 86%, and the waiting time for treatment decreased from 2.1 days to 1.3 days, a reduction of more than one-third. This is due to operational investments and service process restructuring, which can effectively prevent further escalation of gambling harm.

User Needs Change: Decrease in Negative Issues

The core troubles of those seeking help have significantly decreased! The report shows that the proportion of users mentioning acute financial difficulties decreased by 21 percentage points, and the proportions of anxiety and depression issues decreased by 13 and 15 percentage points, respectively. Although the volume of structured support referrals slightly declined, 96% of service users would recommend their treatment services, maintaining a high satisfaction rate.

Transformation Preparation: The Era of Statutory Taxation is Coming

The source of funding is about to change completely! The UK will implement statutory gambling taxation in April 2026, expecting to raise £100 million annually for gambling harm prevention. Previously, GamCare mainly relied on voluntary donations from operators, but future services will be led by the government and new commissioners, with GambleAware ceasing all activities in March 2026.

Service Adjustment: Education and Prevention Shift to Targeted Delivery

The work on education and prevention has become more targeted! GamCare is closing some programs and shifting resources to specific groups such as the criminal justice system, women's services, and the armed forces. It is also aligning with the latest national clinical guidelines and strengthening cooperation with the NHS and financial institutions to lay the foundation for transformation.
