Recently, Sacred Heart University released a survey on the NBA betting scandal, and the results are quite interesting, revealing that most American sports bettors have started to doubt the fairness of the games. The data shows that nearly 80% of bettors said the scandal affected their trust, which could lead to changes in betting behavior. Additionally, the survey also revealed broader concerns about corruption and advertising risks.

Specific data on affected trust levels

The survey results show that 79% of sports bettors say the recent NBA betting scandal has shaken their trust in the fairness of the games. Among them, nearly 40% feel the impact is "significant," which is not a low percentage. Sacred Heart University conducted the survey in the first week of November with 500 American bettors, with a margin of error of 4.3%, and the sample was weighted according to age, gender, etc., so the data is quite reliable.

Changes and shifts in betting behavior

Due to the decline in trust, nearly 36% of respondents said they might reduce their NBA betting. Among them, 45% plan to switch to other leagues, such as the NFL, and more than 27% intend to reduce their overall sports betting expenditure. However, nearly 30% of people are more inclined to bet on the NBA, perhaps because they feel the games will be more closely monitored. Older bettors are more likely to blame players and coaches, while younger people are more likely to point to betting companies.

Concerns about corruption and advertising risks

75% of respondents believe that corruption issues are not limited to the NBA, and the same proportion of people question the integrity of college sports. Nearly 70% of bettors think sports betting ads may encourage risky behavior, with over 30% being "very concerned" about it. Older gamblers and male groups are more sensitive. A spring survey also showed that over 60% of Americans are concerned that the legalization of sports betting could increase corruption risks.

Attribution of responsibility and solutions

Nearly half of the respondents believe that players and coaches should bear more responsibility for gambling violations, only 20% blame the leagues, and about 13% blame betting platforms. Over 80% support stricter enforcement, with 44% strongly in favor. Experts suggest strengthening regulation and public service announcements. Sacred Heart University plans to conduct a follow-up survey in the spring of 2026.
