Recently, the police force in Northern Thailand has been stirred up again, as Deputy Commander of the Fifth Police District, Thannaratch Chumsawat, has been accused of profiting from online gambling. However, he publicly refuted these claims on November 19, stating that all allegations were mere rumors and that an official investigation had already cleared his name. This issue is quite distressing, especially since it has already caused a stir before.

How the Accusation Storm Started
Recently, the chairman of the "Victims Assistance Association" in Thailand, Achariya Ruangratanapong, submitted documents to the police, requesting an investigation into three departments that might have interests with online gambling platforms, and specifically named three officers, including Thannaratch. This has once again exploded in public opinion.
The Deputy Chief Personally Speaks Out
In an interview, Thannaratch outright denied these accusations, calling them nonsense. He explained that in his youth, he was a football player in Chiang Mai and Nan Province, and later co-founded the "Lamphun Warriors" football team. After a management change in 2019, he retained only a small share and was not familiar with the new team. In essence, he feels he has been wronged.
The Investigation History Has Already Been Clarified
Previously, the former chairman of "Lamphun Warriors," Boss Tal, was arrested for gambling, but the court ultimately acquitted him of gambling and money laundering charges, only imposing a fine for illegal promotion. During that period, the police specifically investigated Thannaratch, who submitted a plethora of documents as evidence, proving that he had no connections with online gambling and had already been cleared of suspicion.
What is the Current Situation
Thannaratch emphasizes that he has not participated in any gambling platforms, nor has he benefited from them, and the official investigation has concluded. Now being named again has caused him and his family significant distress. He also wonders why old issues are being brought up again, suspecting that someone might be trying to stir up trouble. Currently, the Thai police have not yet commented on the new complaints, but sources say that the relevant departments will review the documents according to procedure.
