The Central Investigation Bureau of Thailand recently arrested a man suspected of participating in transnational fraud activities. The case involved the use of facial recognition technology to open illegal bank accounts at the Poipet casino in Cambodia, resulting in approximately 200,000 yuan being scammed. The suspect confessed that he was tempted by high rewards to join the fraud gang and operated multiple accounts for fund transfers. The police urge the public to be vigilant and avoid getting involved in similar illegal activities.

Case Background and Arrest Details

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Thailand discovered that a 30-year-old man named Thongsai was suspected of opening "horse accounts" for transnational fund transfers and online fraud. After being lured into a social group, he operated accounts through a facial recognition system at the Poipet casino in Cambodia, involving an amount of over 200,000 yuan. The police acted swiftly to capture him and exposed the fraud gang's modus operandi.

Suspect's Operational Details and Motives

Thongsai admitted that to earn extra money, he was instructed by the gang to open 13 bank accounts, each account opening earning him about 1000 Thai Baht. During the operation, he witnessed the flow of about 200,000 yuan in the accounts and collaborated with about 30 accomplices to complete illegal transactions. After the task was completed, he was sent back to Thailand but realized that the police would eventually track him down.

Police Warnings and Preventive Measures

The police emphasize that the public should not be deceived by invitations to open bank accounts promising high returns on social media, as these accounts are often used for money laundering or fraud, and the account openers will bear legal responsibility. Additionally, regarding online inducements, such as taking inappropriate photos or investment scams, citizens should immediately report them. The hotline for reporting is 1441 or the Central Investigation Bureau at 1195, to help combat crime.
