Former GVC Holdings CEO Kenny Alexander and nine other defendants are scheduled for trial in February 2028 for alleged bribery and fraud cases involving the historical operations of the Turkish subsidiary, with a large volume of evidence and controversy over the trial location.

Case Background and Charges

In August this year, the UK Royal Prosecution Service charged Alexander and 11 others with conspiracy to commit fraud and tax evasion. These charges stem from activities conducted through the Turkish subsidiary of GVC Holdings from 2011 to 2018. The prosecution points out that these actions may violate UK anti-bribery laws.

Trial Schedule

The Southwark Criminal Court has divided the case into three trials. The first trial, involving Alexander and former chairman Lee Feldman among six people, is set to begin on February 14, 2028, and is expected to last four months. The second trial is scheduled for October 2028, targeting three former executives; the final trial will take place in March 2029, focusing on charges against a chief governance officer for obstructing justice.

Evidence and Location Controversy

Defense lawyers express concerns about the massive amount of evidence provided by the prosecution, describing it as "coming in like snowflakes." The judge has requested both parties to negotiate the amount of evidence submitted. The trial location was originally planned to be moved to Leeds, but the judge decided to keep it at Southwark Court to avoid additional financial burdens. Meanwhile, Entain's business interests may affect reporting restrictions.

Historical Background and Company Response

The case dates back to 2019, with GVC denying benefits from its Turkish operations. After the investigation expanded in 2020, the company was renamed Entain and admitted to misconduct, paying a fine of £585 million and donations. In August this year, Alexander and others were formally charged.
