The delegation from the Cambodian National Police and the Thai Border Police held a high-level meeting in Sa Kaeo Province, Thailand, on September 16. The meeting aimed to implement the resolutions of the first Cambodia-Thailand Border Committee special meeting held on September 10, focusing on how to strengthen bilateral law enforcement collaboration and jointly combat new types of crimes such as cross-border telecommunications network fraud.

According to the representatives present, this meeting was a concrete step in implementing the bilateral cooperation mechanism. Based on the agreement previously reached, the two countries will form a joint working group within a week, develop a detailed action plan, and establish a normalized and institutionalized cross-border law enforcement cooperation mechanism. This move marks a new stage in the cooperation between Cambodia and Thailand in the field of border security.

The meeting covered a range of cross-border crime areas, including traditional concerns such as smuggling, human trafficking, and drug crimes, with telecommunications fraud being a key topic of discussion. Representatives from both sides agreed that telecommunications fraud has distinct cross-border characteristics and concealment, causing significant economic losses to victims and posing a serious threat to social stability. Effective containment of such crimes requires deeper cooperation between the two sides in intelligence sharing, joint enforcement, and legal coordination.

The Cambodian police representative reiterated at the meeting the government's unwavering determination to combat all forms of cross-border crime, especially telecommunications fraud, which is of high concern to the public of both countries. The Thai police representative also stated that they would fully cooperate with Cambodia to ensure that the border area no longer serves as a haven for criminals.

The outcomes of the meeting include establishing a regular meeting mechanism, improving intelligence exchange channels, and conducting joint law enforcement training. The police forces of both countries committed to taking practical measures to enhance cross-border law enforcement efficiency and jointly maintain regional security and stability.
