The French National Gaming Authority (ANJ) has appointed Sophie Namer as the head of the newly established Enforcement Office. The Enforcement Office was officially established on July 11 and is part of the recent organizational restructuring of the ANJ, aimed at strengthening enforcement efforts and combating illegal gambling activities.
Sophie Namer is an administrative judge who has served as a rapporteur and public rapporteur at the administrative courts of Limoges and Toulouse for six years. The Deputy Director of the Enforcement Office, Jérôme Labarbe, will assist her in her new duties.
Additionally, the ANJ has established the Data, Markets, and Innovation Office, responsible for monitoring the French gambling market, overseeing the JONUM Innovation Program, and promoting new methods of data utilization.
In July of this year, Pauline Hot was appointed as the new Director-General of the ANJ, succeeding the resigned Rémi Latastem. Hot previously served as Deputy Director of the ANJ and Director of Requests at the Council of State, with extensive experience in administration and auditing.
In terms of policy, the ANJ has proposed new measures, planning to completely ban gambling advertisements during sports event broadcasts before the next World Cup, with the prohibition period extending from five minutes before the event starts to five minutes after it ends. This measure is similar to the voluntary initiative taken by the UK Gambling Commission in 2019 and the recent regulations implemented by the Irish Gambling Association in their country.
