After missing the deadlines for tax payments and customer refunds, Multigioco SRL has lost its legal qualification to operate remote gambling business in Italy.
The regulatory body gave Multigioco a 20-day grace period to fulfill its financial obligations.
The license officially expired on August 20, and the franchise was automatically revoked.
The company failed to complete refunds and tax payments, with multiple violations on record.
The Italian Regulatory and Monopoly Authority (ADM) has revoked Multigioco's remote gambling franchise. On August 1, the company received an official notice requiring it to resolve financial issues within 20 days, but the grace period has passed, the document was subsequently made public, and the license is no longer valid.
The ADM announcement indicates that Multigioco has significant unpaid taxes, fines, and interest, and has also received numerous complaints about player and account holder balances. The regulatory body emphasized: "Repeated breaches of contractual obligations have severely damaged trust in it." The case will now proceed to criminal proceedings, involving unpaid taxes, franchise fees, deferred charges, and sports rescue fund dues.
It is noteworthy that Multigioco was part of the Elys BMG Group, which has shifted its strategic focus to the United States, operating sports betting at The Ugly Mug bar and restaurant in Washington D.C. Meanwhile, Elys Game Technology launched a new brand Newgioco in 2023, but sold it a year later. Although CEO Angelo Merola claimed at the time that the platform would "rewrite the rules of the game," its servers now appear to be inaccessible.
