American journalist Michael B. Alfaro delved into the conflict zone along the Cambodia-Thailand border, revealing the grim situation at the front lines through a live broadcast. In just one hour, his live stream attracted over 9 million viewers on social media platforms, quickly drawing international attention.
In his live broadcast and social media posts, Alfaro accused the Thai military of aggressive actions at the border and detaining 18 Cambodian soldiers.
Following the broadcast, the Thai side immediately launched a smear campaign and there were reports of personal threats against him in the South Carolina area. In response, local prosecutors and police have intervened to ensure his personal safety.
Meanwhile, the American Cambodian community plans to award Alfaro an honorary prize in early September, calling him a "hero for revealing the truth and protecting Cambodia," in recognition of his courage and journalistic mission in reporting the conflict.
