The Cambodian Commercial Gambling Management Committee recently held a special meeting with the Phnom Penh Municipal Government, focusing comprehensively on the management and potential risks of commercial gambling and various gambling activities. The meeting was co-chaired by Kang Yide, Deputy Director of the Judicial and Licensing Management Bureau of the Commercial Gambling Management Committee, and Hong Sule, Deputy Mayor of Phnom Penh, with over 70 representatives from the Phnom Penh Police Department, Gendarmerie Command, and various district administrative bodies in attendance.
The meeting emphasized the need to strengthen the public's awareness of gambling laws and regulations, thoroughly review the difficulties and challenges in regulation in Phnom Penh, and promote the establishment of information sharing, joint enforcement, and regular supervision mechanisms to ensure the healthy operation of the gambling industry within a legal and compliant framework.
Data shows that by the end of July 2025, there are 12 lottery companies and 31 branches nationwide, with Phnom Penh hosting 10 lottery companies and one branch.
Industry insiders pointed out that this meeting sends a strong signal: the regulation of the gambling industry in Phnom Penh has entered a high-pressure period. Companies that do not timely improve compliance and internal management will face stricter law enforcement scrutiny and potential legal risks.
