As more and more Danes actively seek to distance themselves from gambling, the number of registrants in Denmark's self-exclusion registry ROFUS has surpassed 60,000 as of May 1, 2025. Since its establishment in 2012, the platform has seen continuous growth, expanding from less than 1,500 people in its first year to its current size, indicating a significant increase in public awareness and acceptance, especially among young male demographics.

ROFUS (Self-Exclusion Register for Gamblers) allows users to voluntarily restrict their gambling activities on platforms and offline venues operated by licensed operators in Denmark, including online betting, retail channels, and physical casinos. Users can choose short-term restrictions ranging from 24 hours to 6 months, or permanent exclusion, which can only be lifted after at least one year.

The director of the Danish Gambling Authority, Anders Dorph, noted that ROFUS has become an important tool for those in need. "The proactive use of ROFUS is a positive signal, indicating that the system is effectively helping the public stay away from gambling troubles," he said.

Data also reveals a clear trend in age and gender: as of May 2025, the majority of the 60,000 registered users are males under 40, with males under 20 accounting for 96% of registrants in that age group. In response to this trend, Danish regulatory authorities have launched a new campaign themed "Relax with ROFUS," aimed at enhancing youth education and reducing the stigma associated with gambling.

Meanwhile, the growth in ROFUS registrations coincides with an overall uptick in the market—Denmark's total gambling revenue in April 2025 increased by 11.6% year-over-year, reaching 665 million Danish Kroner (approximately 103 million US dollars), showing that regulation and market development are advancing in tandem.
