The investigation team of the Bangkok Metropolitan Police Station in Thailand, based on a search warrant issued by the court, conducted a surprise inspection of a hotel room in the Makkasan area, successfully apprehending Chinese nationals suspected of engaging in illegal activities, and seized nearly 200 mobile phones and several computer devices on site, with 4 suspects detained on the spot.
The police revealed that they had recently received tips that several rooms in the hotel had been rented long-term, all inhabited by Chinese nationals with no legitimate source of employment and suspicious behavior. After assessment, the police legally applied for a search warrant and launched the operation on the same day.
During the raid, law enforcement officers entered the room and found several Chinese men operating computers and playing games. One of them tried to quickly move several boxes filled with mobile phones in an attempt to destroy or hide evidence, but was immediately stopped and controlled by the police.
With the help of translators, the 4 Chinese suspects admitted that all the mobile phones were purchased from China and sold in Thailand through online platforms, with thousands of phones sold in the past three months, averaging over 30 transactions per day. The police initially charged the four with "overstaying" and are currently analyzing whether the phones and computers contain evidence related to money laundering, online gambling, or other illegal operations.
The case is still under further investigation, with the police expanding their search for the financial sources and technical support network behind the scenes to prevent the continued spread of such illegal operations.
