After submitting the required technical assessment reports, the Brazilian Prize and Betting Secretariat (SPA) has reinstated the licenses of five betting companies, lifting the suspension previously imposed due to missing technical documents. This suspension was first announced last week, initially involving seven operators.
The SPA stated that the suspension was due to the operators' failure to submit their betting system's security assessment reports as required. According to Regulatory Norm No. 722, the report must be issued by a certified institution and submitted within 90 days after obtaining the operating license.
Logame do Brasil Ltda and Sortenabet Gaming Brasil SA had their licenses reinstated after submitting complete documents. Meanwhile, EA Entretenimento e Esportes and Bet.Bet Soluções Tecnológicas SA quickly submitted their materials after the suspension list was announced and were also released from restrictions. Another operator, Pixbet, as the main sponsor of the Flamengo club, obtained a temporary injunction from the federal court and had its license restored before the weekend match. It is noteworthy that Brazilian law prohibits unlicensed brands from participating in sports sponsorship.
Currently, the only operators still on the suspension list are Bell Ventures Digital Ltda and Betesporte Online Betting Ltda. As Logame's LiderBet, GeralBet, and B2xBet, as well as Sortenabet's SorteNaBet, Betou, and BetFusion resume operations, the market is gradually returning to normal.
However, SPA's enforcement methods have raised questions within the industry. Lawyer Fabio Ferreira Kujawski believes that SPA's suspension decision was "an overreaction," lacking flexible communication, which could cause excessive damage to businesses that have invested millions of dollars in sponsorship contracts.
He pointed out: "The regulatory body should maintain authority, but also avoid disproportionate sanctions. A balance must be found between active regulation and a hostile attitude." He added that he believes SPA and related government departments will eventually establish a more reasonable management path.
