German gambling giant Merkur Group recently achieved a major breakthrough, as its subsidiary Merkur Gaming US successfully obtained a production and distribution license from the Nevada Gaming Commission, marking the group's official return to one of the world's largest regulated gambling markets.
This license approval coincides with the Merkur Group's acquisition of Las Vegas licensed operator Gaming Arts LLC, which has been approved by the European Commission. This acquisition, expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2025, will provide a crucial pivot for Merkur's layout in the US market.
It is worth noting that this is not Merkur's first foray into the US market. The group had obtained a Nevada license in 1998 but withdrew in the early 21st century. This return highlights its determination to deeply cultivate the North American market.
Merkur Group's Supervisory Board Chairman Michael Gauselmann emphasized that this approval fully demonstrates the group's outstanding performance in compliance operations and forward-looking layout. Currently, Merkur's business covers more than 90 countries worldwide, and Gaming Arts has obtained operating licenses in 155 jurisdictions, a strong alliance that will create greater market value.
Management Board Chairman Lars Felderhoff pointed out that the Nevada license is a key step in the group's internationalization strategy, which will lay the foundation for long-term stable development.
This return coincides with an active period in the US gambling market. Following the approval of Kambi Group to provide sports betting technology in Nevada, Merkur's entry will further stimulate the competitive vitality of the state's gambling industry.
