The Swedish Gambling Authority (Spelinspektionen) recently initiated a comprehensive regulatory review process for licensed operators, requiring companies including Lotto, Polar, 888 Sweden, Mr Green, and PinBet to submit relevant information to assess their compliance with legal regulations concerning website information disclosure.
This review focuses on the type and clarity of information provided on the operators' websites, ensuring that all mandatory disclosure information is appropriately presented and easily accessible to users in accordance with current regulations.
This regulatory action is in response to a report by the Swedish National Audit Office at the beginning of 2025, which pointed out significant flaws in the current regulatory system, failing to meet the standards set when the gambling market was re-regulated in 2019.
The Swedish Gambling Authority acknowledges challenges in implementing effective supervision measures and commits to strengthening regulatory efforts. Recently, the authority has imposed bans on three illegal gambling companies targeting Swedish consumers: EOD Code SRL, Igloo Ventures SRL, and MIBS NV.
The review is expected to be completed by spring, and based on the findings, the regulatory body may take further intervention measures. This series of actions marks a move towards stricter regulation of the Swedish gambling market, aiming to enhance industry transparency and consumer protection levels.
