Cambodian Scam Nightmare: Taiwanese Man Sets "High Salary Trap" to Harm Friend, Sentenced to 18 Months

A fraud case was recently adjudicated at the Changhua District Court in Taiwan. A man surnamed Ding was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison for posting fake job advertisements on social media, luring two friends to Cambodia to engage in telecommunications fraud.

The case revealed that Ding joined a fraud group in Cambodia in November 2021. In June 2022, he posted a job vacancy for "document processing" on Facebook, offering a monthly salary of 50,000 New Taiwan Dollars (approximately 11,000 RMB), including meals, accommodation, and free airfare. His two friends believed the offer and went, only to find themselves forced to participate in fraudulent activities, living in a dormitory arranged by the group along with Ding.

"I am also a victim!" Ding claimed in court that he was also deceived into going to Cambodia. However, the judge found that Ding had stayed in the area for over half a year and was very familiar with the operations of the fraud group, yet he still actively recruited others to join, clearly showing criminal intent.

Ultimately, the court found Ding guilty of violating the "Organized Crime Prevention Act," and sentenced him to a heavier penalty of 1 year and 6 months in prison. The judge emphasized that such transnational fraud severely disrupts social order, and given Ding's negative attitude during the trial, he was severely punished. The case is still subject to appeal.

This case serves as another reminder to the public to be vigilant about overseas high-paying job opportunities and not to be easily deceived by others, to avoid falling into fraud traps.
