The latest report from the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) indicates that among the 34 foreign detainees currently receiving medical attention, there are six pregnant women, one of whom is seven months pregnant. Additionally, several individuals are suffering from various health issues, some of which are severe.
According to the report, five detainees suffer from hypertension, three have been diagnosed with mental illnesses, two have diabetes, and two are being treated for skin diseases. Moreover, four individuals require surgery for different injuries, including one with spinal damage and another with a fractured foot.
Beyond the aforementioned conditions, some detainees have also reported symptoms such as abdominal pain, appendicitis, asthma, hepatitis B, Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), and tuberculosis.
PAOCC spokesperson Winston Casio stated that all detainees undergo regular health checks and receive necessary medical treatments. He specifically emphasized that all detainees diagnosed with contagious diseases have been isolated to prevent the spread of infections.
Currently, the total number of foreign nationals detained by PAOCC is 947, with Chinese citizens being the majority at over 640; followed by Vietnamese detainees numbering 160. Additionally, there are 36 Indonesians, 36 Malaysians, 30 Koreans, 12 Taiwanese, and 2 Thais.
The authorities are further investigating the involvement of these foreigners with illegal activities related to Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) and ensuring that the basic medical needs of the detainees are met.
