A much-loved casino on Southend seafront has been given the green light to carry out major work to replace crumbling concrete in its roof before completing a “stunning refurbishment”.
Southend Council has approved Genting’s plans to replace the roof of its Westcliff casino, with work set to start this month. Work is expected to take at least a year to complete, but will be completed in phases to allow the casino to remain open throughout the refurbishment project.
The first phase will see the roof replaced, before the second phase sees the interior refurbished.
Genting is replacing Raac found in the roof, which forced the casino to close briefly in November 2023 before a precautionary protective ceiling and scaffolding were put in place.
